It seems things are back to normal, though I did end up doing way more work than necessary. Actually as it stands things may have improved a bit. I used Simple Scripts to install this time and I have a fresh install with all my old posts.
I have lost my links (well they are actually still sort of available to me, I just have to figure out how drag them out), but that seems to be the worst of it.
Aloha!
Very strange behavior…
I came into Statrix this morning and discovered that my posts page is displaying only my latest post and no sidebar widgets. Whatever could be wrong…???
I notice it’s not just the sidebars, but the footer as well.
I actually reinstalled clean WP and linked it to my DB, but that hasn’t helped.
Switching to a different theme does show up the space for the sidebar, but it’s not actually appearing on the blog page (front). Go figure, eh?
I went ahead and repaired and optimized the DB and things still aren’t up to snuff. Ouch!
SOLVED – It was a Javascript tag I’d forgotten to take out of a recent post. I was checking to see if could put in a TripIt badge – Nope. 😉
The upshot is I may have been able to clean up a longstanding error stemming from when I tried to use bbPress.
Aloha!
No travel in February…whew…
It seems that my February won’t be involve any planes. In January I went to Kauai, in March it’s Oakland/SFO, and now in April I’m headed back to Hilo. Given all that February looks pretty dull.
I use TripIt for logging all these trips and love the site. Of all the “lifehack” type sites around, it’s the one I always use. Of course that means I use when I travel, but there’s not much use for it (for me) the rest of the time.
When I started using the Internet
I remember when it was ARPANET. Later I recall seeing a Usenet feed through The Well sometime in the 80's when I was using GEnie and Compu$erve. In the very late 80's and early 90's as a returning student at UH I was granted access to the real thing (I soon had to become a fellow of the Future Studies Program and work on their MOO because they weren't handing out access to every student as they do now, ). Gopher and Veronica were the big things back then and the WWW was still text based for the most part with no browsers on PCs. Mosaic was cool in '93 followed by Cello, but if your site wasn't able to be read by Lynx (in text) you weren't being friendly.
In May of 1995 it got ugly. Life has never been the same since.
I wouldn't mind one of these…
If you pay me enough, I'll sing these songs at a karaoke bar
I’m not a big fan of karaoke, but when forced at gunpoint I’ll generally go along with it.
Baby It’s Cold Outside by Dean Martin
If one has to do a duet, this is it. Again, the lyrics are funny enough to draw attention away from my voice. If my partner has a good voice, so much the better.
Forms…
It’s finally time to learn about forms on WordPress. I now have to enable an event registration system for the site I manage and thankfully there are solutions.
The one I’m looking at right now seems quite complete. It’s cforms II which can be found on ‘delicious days‘. It’s also a lovely food blog. Go figure. 🙂
Time to get to work. 🙂

If I had easy access to a helicopter, I'd fly to Mount Kaala this weekend
Political post…Bush, shoes, and art…
I generally don’t go in for political posts on this blog. It’s not that I don’t have opinions, I do. I also vote and donate money to causes I believe in. But here on Statrix I generally have other fish to fry. However, I just couldn’t pass this up.
It seems a momument to the shoe thrown at former President Bush has been erected in Iraq. Here’s an image which links back to the BBC article.

Aloha!
How I'd spend $1,000
Not enough for the new computer of my dreams, I'd probably use if for a plane ticket back to Mexico City and blow another grand on hotels, meals, and all the stuff I didn't buy last November.
