I’m down with a bit of bronchitis so I’ve had to ride my moped a bit more than usual this weekend as I can’t quite get enough air to go up hills. Flats are fine, but hills…ouch.
I guess I’m going to have to learn that I’m getting older and I don’t recover quite as fast as I might otherwise like. Actually I’d prefer not to get sick to begin with, but that option doesn’t seem to be in the cards.
So much for bicycles.
Now for baseball. I’m too busy with a weekend series of meetings to go to the first game of the doubleheader today. I will be attending the second game, but in a perfect world I’d be at both. Sigh.
Anyway, check out the Bows, they’re doing well!
Aloha!
Why is it that…
…whenever I get a flat tire on my bicycle I’m wearing a light colored shirt?
It may not actually be the case, but it sure seems like it.
I had another flat today, thankfully the first in while. It must have been a slow leak because I couldn’t find anything that would have done it in either the tire or the tube. It was simply flat when I came out of the office today.
Luckily I had another tube with me. Why, I wonder, do I say luckily? There was no luck about it. I had another tube with me because I carry an extra tube with me all the time. In fact this very morning I had considered leaving all my stuff at home and riding to work “light”. I didn’t. Apparently I made the right decision. 🙂
And, while I was at The Bike Shop, my LBS, I asked them to tighten up the spokes on my rear wheel. Actually I didn’t know I needed that done. I sort of suspected it as I was getting a pinging sound that I couldn’t quite locate on anything but the wheel, but the mech at the shop confirmed it and took care of it for me in just a couple of minutes.
Aloha!
I could eat nothing but Thai green curry for a year
..well, maybe just for breakfast
Thai Green Curry by FotoosVanRobin
Thai food would definitely be my choice. Living in Hawaii it's pretty easy to get decent Thai food, but the best I've had was, of course, in Thailand. I've even eaten Thai food in Mexico DF!
Follow My Leader
Follow My Leader by James B. Garfield
This is one of the first books I recall choosing on my own. I think I must have read it dozens of times and probably drove my folks nuts. It's about a young boy who is blinded by a firecracker and learns to thrive with the help of his guide dog. I didn't ever want to be blind (still don't), but I sure wanted one of those dogs.
Twitpay…
Do you hanker to send me a few cents? You can you know. All you need to do is get a Twitpay account. It’s a new startup service that enables one to send money via twitter. Remember, my twitter name is statrixbob. Go ahead, send me a few fennigs. 🙂

The service works hand in hand with Amazon Payments so it should be “safe” to use.
The only thing I’m not overly happy with is the fact that one can check other folks accounts by using their twitter name. If you check on me by going to http://twitpay.me/statrixbob you will learn I have no incoming payments due me, nor have I made a payment. By the time you see this that may have changed of course. 🙂
You can try it with some of your friends and find out if what they’re doing – just replace ‘statrixbob‘ with another twitter name – like scobleizer for instance.
Will it work in the long run? I have absolutely no idea. But I think something like this will eventually allow us to spend our hard earned dollars using one of the various electronic devices we carry around. Start now, send me a buck. 🙂
Aloha!
Zombies!
And now this…
Since my bike is beginning to resemble a Rube Goldberg device…

…and with Easter just around the corner, how can we resist this?
The solution…very clever, Mr. Bond…
Okay, so it’s a hack…
Now I’ve got two racks…I’d show you picture but at the moment my phone doesn’t seem to be cooperating…and of course as soon as I open my mouth…

The reason for all this is that my original rack is too low to support the saddlebag. The new seatpost rack is just about right. But everything sure looks funny now. 🙂
My New Sackville SaddleSack…
…is going to cost me more money. 🙂
Actually that’s only because I think I’m going to have to figure out a decent way to mount it properly. I knew this going in, so I’m not complaining.
Here’s the bag itself…

You can see a 12-inch ruler on the bag to lend a sense of scale to the image. It’s a big bag. 🙂
The quality seems excellent. While I haven’t tried it yet, it’s a pleasure to feel. I can’t wait to get home and see about hooking it up.
The big problem with my commuter bike is that the rack is well below the seat, about a foot. The bag is only about 8 inches tall and fasteners aren’t quite that long. This bag is big enough that it requires a rack to support it and that means I need to come up with a solution. I’m thinking that a seat post rack would work fine and may even be an improvement in one fashion – the bag would be removable if the rack is on a quick release. I am worried about this bag being stolen, that’s how nice it is. 🙂
Anyway I’m a couple of hours from a solution, so no worries. I’ll fix it all up in a bit.
Aloha!
Recovering slowly and more…
I’m finally feeling a bit better after last week’s cold. On Monday last I had to leave work early as I was feeling off. I assumed I’d be back the next day but it was not to be. Indeed I was out on both Tuesday and Wednesday, returning for the rest of the week only because I was bored out of my mind. I was not up to snuff over the weekend either. Yesterday, in fact, I did not ride my bicycle. Today though, aside from a bit of weakness and a cough I seem to doing much better.
And, speaking of bicycles, I’m hoping my new saddlebag has arrived. Whatever came in the mail actually arrived on Saturday postage due. I was out at the time so I got a little note instead of a package and, being Saturday, I have to wait till today to pick it up and pay the $12.80.
That I owe a bit of money on the package annoys me, but only a little. I don’t expect small companies to pick up the shipping on things unless there is a special of some sort going on. Therefore I’m quite sure I’d be paying the $12.80 either way. So it’s not the paying that bothers me, it’s the fact that I had to wait till Monday to do it. I’m not even mad about having to go the post office as it gets me out of the office for a bit. 🙂
As soon as I get my bag (assuming that’s what it is), I’ll be back with more information.
Aloha!
