I just found this document on NOAA’s website. It’s an accurate, and fairly complete description of Iowa’s climate. Of course this year there was a heatwave in the midwest that spiced things up a bit.
The way I’ve been describing the journey (which I thoroughly enjoyed lest you think I’m complaining) is simple.
Everyday was hot, but fortunately the humidity pretty much took our minds off the heat. And, in truth, the humidity was easy to deal with because the hills took ours minds off the humidity. Nothing, however, took our minds off the hills.
Am I glad to be back in Hawaii (whose climate is described here)? Absolutely. Would I do RAGBRAI again? Absolutely. Still I’m thinking next year is probably a good year to be in Oregon. Or, if I really, really need the heat, Thailand or Indonesia. All places I’d like to bike.
