On Saturday I finished ten of fifteen weeks of training for RAGBRAI according to the training plan put out on the RAGBRAI site. I ridden a total of 1200 miles in that time, or about 120 miles a week. The plan called for only 930 miles in that time, so I’m a bit ahead of the game. Every mile I ride ahead of schedule is going to make RAGBRAI that much more enjoyable.
There are five weeks left to go for a planned total of 1550. I’m really hoping I can continue to ride ahead of schedule, even the second to last week with 175 miles planned. I’ve got a bit of a buffer, but I don’t want to dip into it.
Now I know there are a lot of folks out there who’d consider this fairly low mileage but I’m not training for a race. All I really need to do is enjoy myself and I can guarantee you that I’m doing just that right now.
Today, day one of week eleven, I rode almost 40 miles of this week’s 100 (light week). My Bike Friday really felt great on her new Schwalbe Marathon Plus 20×1.75 tires. The extra width really makes a difference from the Marathon (not Plus) 20×1.50 tires I was riding. If anything I’m even faster on them because they are more comfortable (though frankly any extra speed is probably due to all the cycling I’ve been doing).
Here’s the Friday I’m doing all this riding on now…

Because of the frame replacement I rode more than half of my 1200 on my Quickbeam, but I’m pleased to be back on the Friday. It’s what’s going to Iowa so I really need to get used to riding it mile after mile. So far, so good.
Aloha!
